1099-G Correction Request The IRS statement titled 1099-G is prepared by DETR and reports the amount an individual received in unemployment benefits last year. If you have received a Form 1099-G and you have not collected unemployment benefits in 2020 or believe the amount reported in box number one is incorrect, please complete this form in full. The submission of this form does not represent an investigation by DETR but does represent your dispute of information reported on the 1099-G form. Retain a copy of this form and all of your records for the IRS. If you do not receive a corrected 1099-G from DETR in time to file your taxes, the IRS is recommending that individuals file their tax return with the correct amount and then have documentation ready if the IRS contacts you about the discrepancy. The amount we list on your 1099-G includes any overpaid benefits. We report the total amount of benefits we paid you in the previous calendar year, regardless of whether you repaid any overpayment. If you repaid part or all of your overpayment, the IRS allows you to deduct the repaid amounts on your income tax return. For more information on deducting an overpayment on your tax return, see the IRS Instructions or contact the IRS or a tax professional.
